The first batch of prototype yarn has arrived!
This week I recieved a box of yarn containing 5 cones – 2 lbs each – of Jacob X wool blended with 20% mohair in a 2-ply equaling 840 yards per pound.
It’s beautiful! Soft, strong, ready to be custom dyed and woven into rugs. Both period correct Venetian Carpeting and modern designs.
My experience with MJ Packer at Battenkill Fiber Mill was excellent. She is very knowledgeable and made some excellent suggestions while listening to my yarn needs.
The work was done very quickly and I’m already planning and preparing for the next batch of yarn to go out.
This will become blanket yarn – to be woven into Old School Wool and Weaving’s signature design throw blankets.
I still have so much to learn about the process of converting locally raised wool into finished textiles, but I am thrilled to be on my way to that goal.
There is little else as satisfying as accepting a raw fleece from the sheep’s back and seeing it turned into a beautiful, soft material ready for the loom.
Thank you to all who are supportive of this project of :
” Locally grown and handwoven close to home ” fiber to fabric. 🙂
